Hello.

I started character modelling last week. This week I showed my progress to my lecturer, who spotted something on it, and told me that it meant that my mesh had corrupted, and that I needed to go back to the last save file that didn't have that problem. Unfortunately, the last file that doesn't have that will basically mean restarting from scratch. I really need a way to solve this without simply having to restart from scratch.

My lecturer specialised in XSI and not Maya, and so I'm hoping that she's wrong and that the only way to solve this isn't restarting it from scratch (apparently the same thing happened to a student last year and they had to restart).

The problem is visible in smooth mode, where a little square of edges suddenly appears on the characters foot. I had always thought that it was just bad topology and that I could fix it up, but apparently its some form of corruption. She also says that deleting the faces will just cause the corruption to appear elsewhere.

I realise that the topology is an absolute nightmare, I'm sorry for causeing any eyes to bleed!

Here is the unsmoothed mode:

Any suggestions, or advice to fix this, or at least stop this from happening again would really be appreciated.
