I know this may sound a bit odd but I'm looking for a scrip/plug in that would allow me to place geometry in the same way that PFTrack allows you to by utilising pinning.
I often have to manually track objects in Maya after creating a camera in matchmove software, so I'm trying to line up and object to match what is in the footage, keyframe it and continue to refine.
Using a feature like pinning allows you to pull the object into place without it being scaled.
So for a very simple example, if there is a box in the footage, in pftrack you bring your correct scaled/modelled OBJ/FBX model in, then when you use the 'pin' feature it allows you to place the object via where the vertex would be.
This isn't a great example as the model isn't matching the footage but it might give the general gist of it:
Imported model:
![]()
1st pin to pull the object into place:
![]()
2nd pin helps with rotation partly:
![]()
3rd+ pin really snaps it into position:
![]()
(in this case the model isn't matching but it'll do)
It's a really handy way of positioning/rotation objects into place when sometimes the axis are all messed up or what have you.
