Im trying to get a necklace to simulate on my character, but after many hours of trying, I am getting no where.  Anyone know of any good tutorials to help out?

Ive tried making the body a passive rigid body, and having the necklace be an active rigid body, I've also tried pin constraints, and using gravity, but still no luck.

Motion Trails WITH Anchor Transform option is broken in Maya 2018.
I consumed a good hour or more trying to figure out how this works. No matter what I did and no matter how many times I re-read the poorly documented grammatically wrong documentation, it just didn't produces what the documentation showed in the little animated gifs.
I thought to myself, "just move on....". But as usual it was bugging me. So I had the opportunity to try it out in Maya 2017.... And guess what! It works in 2017. It's completely malfunctioning in 2018. The Motion Trails are not at all in "animated camera space".
 
Of course it's broken.
Why was I wasting my time trying to get it to work?
Why was I doubting myself?
When in doubt, always try it, if possible, in another version of Maya.
It's usually and probably NOT you.
It's just Maya and the endless combination of bugs.
Always  a different combination of random bugs in every other version of Maya.
Good luck being productive and efficient when having to jump from version to version.

Thanks Maya. Thanks for nothing... Shacking my head... what else is there left to do.
What a complete waste of time. Even the simplest things don't work from version to version.

Use the Scale Keys Tool described here. Tell me what you get....

Create a sphere.
Animate some translation keys over 100 frames or so.
Select some of the keys in the Graph Editor.
Switch to the Scale Keys Tool. (R key)
In the Scale Tool Settings (for the graph editor!) set it to "Manipulator". Not "Gestural".
UNCKHECK "Only scale selected keys".
Try to scale some keys....
Is it working properly?
For me it's doing some very strange things. It is starting to scale and then it is gradually accelerating the scaling. The best way to describe it is by saying that it is behaving as if there was a "double transform" on keys!
 
If you have "Only scale selected keys" UNCKHECKED in the scale tool it breaks the REGION TOOL as well (the one next to the lattice tool in the graph editor).

Try using that instead of the scale tool now. Same thing! "Double Transform"!

This is all in 2018.3. And it has been broken since 2017! It looks like last time it worked properly was in 2016...

This "Only scale selected keys" option (when UNCKHECKED) has caused side effects in other tools  in the past too but never something as bad as this.

Hi,

I am struggling to project a 360 hdr onto simple primitives in maya..

Found lots of tutorials for projection normal pictures onto geo but no good/ complete ones for projection 360 panos to primitives..

My HDR is of the inside of a warehouse- I want to project just one wall because I moved my object (a car) closer to the wall and my HDR was shot in the center of the warehouse.  So I just want to move this 'wall' closer by projecting the hdr onto it, thinking I could get better reflections

Hi all!

Is there any way to smooth/ round out the edge here without affecting the height? (I want the Height to stay flat)

I tried using Quad draws Relax tool but it affected height

I tried adding subdivision but that also affected height

Essentially I want to maintain the sharp edge of the curved frontal face against the flat top face

Hello,

Is it possible to parent only translation without affecting object rotation?
In my scene there is a character with a torch. The torch is parented to the hand and the fluid container(with a flame) is parented to the torch. The problem is that the flame seems to be pointing wherever the torch is pointing. So when the character lowers his hand the flame burn sideways :P

And by the way: is there some cleaver way to simulate flame reaction (changing turbulence) while the character is waving with the torch? I was thinking about changing fluid turbulence strength based on the change in whole character translation. Unfortunately I'm really bad in writing scripts in Maya so no idea how to achieve it :/

New Maya user moving on from Max. Was hoping I could grab a vertice off of a cached sim of twigs bouncing and swaying and attach a clump of leafs to it using a Point on Poly constrain. Now I find  that this particular constraint uses the parent UV's to position the child object? Maybe I mess with the UV placement to approximate the global location.... I could be missing something here, but was expecting it to work similar to Max's attachment constrain, whereby the child object moves with the positional and rotational coordinates of the parent object's selected component?

But if I go around just scattering twigs in a bush-like manner and running a cloth sim of their movement, blowing in the wind, then cache the sim; I have a rather incomprehensible UV arrangement. How can I avoid the UV's and tell my clump of leaves to simply stick to the selected vertice's position and rotation (with offest)? I saw an nCLoth constrain that looks for the closest verts of the parent object. This works if I want to add another layer of complexity.

I am familiarizing myself with the "Pose Editor" and it's workflow.
I have a few questions.
 
This is the setup.
If a joint, that is part of a rig, is driven by a Controller (through constraints) you have to specify this and it's attribute in the "Driver Settings" and then create the "Neutral Poses".

So far so good.

Then you can Pose the controller (that is driving the joint) anyway you see fit.

You create a pose by clicking "Add Pose".
It is conveniently in "EDIT" mode immediately.
You SCULPT your mesh a little bit.

Here comes the question.

When you right click on the pose there is an option to "Update Pose" if you change the rotation of the controller for example. (This can be useful if you want to change the pose to a different extreme or more extreme pose).

Everything is fine EXCEPT that when you double click the POSE it DOES NOT GO TO THE NEW UPDATED POSE ANGLE. It goes to the OLD POSE BEFORE YOU UPDATED IT.

It looks like the new pose angle values are not stored to be used when double clicking. Looks like a bug... unless I am missing something.
 
This works fine if there is no controller driving the joint. But if you are using a controller then the UPDATE POSE does not store the new POSE. Pretty much every rig on this side of the universe uses controllers..... The blend shape does seem to be driven correctly. You just can't return to the NEW updated pose.

Also the documentation says something about a slider for the weights in the Pose Editor

There is no slider and you can't change the weight values in the text box as described from what I can tell.
Is the documentation wrong here?

Hi all....for some reason, I don't have my Shapes Input ability in my Channel Box (so I can edit things created). Any idea how to get it back?

As tittle says.
I'm willing to pay in 200¬300 pounds to anyone who can provide me with a step by step tutorial on how to convert an animated Unreal Engine 4 Mannequin FBX Export and re-target its animation to Daz3D's Genesis 8 figure, be it via HumanIK or ART, whichever works best.

Obviously I would also want to be able to export said re-targeted animation on Genesis 8 back to Daz3D so I could make aniblocks out of it.

Weird Graph Editor Glitch?

I've been trying to learn the graph editor in Maya 2018.4, but I've run into these problems:

1. Weird lines (tangents?) when in non weighted tangent mode. FYI the animation is a sphere moving up and down the Y axis while moving across the Z axis.
2. The curve only shows up when I tick "Show Result" in the "View" menu.
3. Lots of lag when zooming out while the "Show Result" box is ticked.

I also have Maya Bonus Tools installed.

Hello, 

I am having trouble with xgen geometry.

splines word fine on this geo, but when I convert a paintfx to polygon and try to use it, or even import a dessert grass model, and try to use the custom geometry archive instead of splines, it scatters the geometry like this.  Yes all transforms are frozen and pivots centered on both the mesh and the grass. HELP!

Hi !!!
I'm having huge problems creating a scene in maya:
I have to create an animation of a set of sheets of paper that runs along a curve around an object like a kind of magic.
Is there anybody who could tell me what kind of pipeline I have to adopt or who could give me some advice on how to approach to the problem? 
For now I have approached the scene using first ncloth on a single sheet of paper, after which I created a vortex field but does not allow any kind of control of the mesh.
So I tried to bind the sheets to a curve with the attract mesh but even here I did not succeed.

Hi all,

I have an animation with a camera aim and up which follow object A with "Aim Constraint".
There is a moment during the animation that I want to camera stop following the object A / stop the aim constraint. 

Can't find my answer, all  the websites explain how to aim constraint but not how to stop, pause it and restart it again.

Hope to find here some simple answers

Noise in Xgen grass using Arnold render - image sequence - Maya 2018

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the Arnold renderer as well as Maya 2018 (still using Maya 2014 with Mental Ray). I needed to create a grass scene which is why I switched to Maya 2018 to be able to use Xgen, rendered with Arnold.

I rendered an image sequence of the scene using the "Render Sequence" option. When I tested my scene it looked pretty good rendering stand alone frames. The problem occur when I rendered an image sequence. There is a lot of flickering noise in the Xgen grass as well as a "blue square" that pop in the middle of the rendered scene around 0:04 seconds. I'm currently using 2 area lights in the scene as well as a white sphere around the scene that bounce the light.
 
I didn't changed any settings of the lights except the exposure:
light 1 exposure: 19.00
light 2 exposure: 16.00
 
Didn't changed anything in the original render settings as well, here's what it looks like:
