Tip for UV unwrapping ?

So I've been fighting with maya for about 3 hours trying to find a correct way to unwrap this model, without success. Anyone got any clue as to what to do ?

Hi everyone, 

I'm still pretty new to modelling and have been stuck on this problem for a while. I've modelled dog tags on a chain and want to animate it falling. I've tried applying hinge constraints and then gravity to make it fall into the correct shape. However, when I press play, it freezes until I resign to the fact that it won't unfreeze and I force quite the programme.  I'm guessing it could have to do with the amount of constraints I've applied and my iMacs ability. Does anyone know if there is a different way to animate a necklace without using so many hinge constraints?

My computer specs are
Processor 3.2 GHz intel core 5
AMD Radeon R9 M380 graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. 

render.exe crashes - "launchRender has stopped working..."

Hi guys - am in dire need of some help. Trying to batch render in maya 2018 immediately crashes the render.exe, popping an OS warning window that launchRender.exe has stopped working. It does not matter if I try to invoke a batch render from within the GUI or from the command prompt, neither does it matter which renderer I try to use. The result is always an immediate crash of render.exe. Any ideas? I did try re-installing maya 2018.2 - to no avail...

Help me pls RenderMan want render my Maya2016 Data

Hello, my name is Michelle and I have a problem and I wanted to ask for help.

I created several objects in Maya 2016 and uploaded them all in one scene (+ shader) now I wanted to render the file but it came to an Erro. The Maya could not save the file in folder and then the program simply closes. I was able to fix the error by removing Unknown nodes + Remove Duplicate Shading Network. Then I thought now I can rendereverything, but then unfortunately a new Erro
A3003 I do not know how I can fix this .. also I tried to save the file as fbx but he does not take the shaders. I use the free version of Renderman.

Hi all,

I am back. After DeeX Shaders Pack, DeeX VRay Fast, DeeX VRay Arsenal, I want to share a teaser of a tool I have created during my free time: DeeX Steroid.
I wanted the new renderLayer system of Maya nodes based graph. At the end I did it myself.

It gives you unlimited possibilities:
- use same collection(s) on different renderLayers
- combine collections

Mantaining the smooth curved surface of a cylinder while utilizing edge loops

Hi, I'm modeling a component for a camera project I'm working on. One of the sides of the cylindrical body has a hole (rectangular in shape as you can see in the screenshot). To maintain the shape of the hole, I've added edge loops. However, this obviously causes creases (sharp edges) to appear on the model, thus ruining the smooth cylindrical curved surface as you can see in the screenshot. 
 I tried using the edge slide tool to try distributing the edges over the model but obviously, the entire point of the edge loop is lost if its not close to the edge you want to tighten. 

I was wondering if there was a way to retain the smooth surface while maintaining the shape of the hole.

I'm trying to extrude a pipe from a curve using extrude and nurbsTessellate, like the helper in bonus tools.  A problem is that I often end up with a mesh with inverted normals.  Every thread about this is just somebody saying "just flip the mesh normals", which isn't much help since I want this to work automatically as the curve deforms.

I tried orienting the profile curve to the normal of the start of the curve (using a pointOnCurveInfo and an aim constraint), but that only half-works and still flips if I move CVs around.

Does anyone know how the extrude node decides which direction to point normals, or another generic way to fix this?  It's definitely related to the orientation of the profile curve (if it's flipped, rotating the profile curve always fixes it), but I'm not sure what the other piece is.

Hi, 

In C4D, it has this iron tool that relaxes the selected faces. You can see it in action in this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c5y6fqpw4...r_maya.mp4?dl=0
The only tool I can think of that relaxes is the Sculpt Tool (Smooth/Relax Mode) but not quite the same as I need it based on face selection and with equal relaxing amount as demonstrated in the video.

Hello, maybe someone know some Youtuber/Vimeo guy who makes great modelling tutorials for Maya ?

Looking for an artist who is really decent in it, not someone who just experiments a bit or tries to model something for the first time  and uploads a tutorial how he achieved it, becasue i want to learn the overall workflow too and not just model something with trial and error everytime.

Many people probs already know Arrimus 3D who makes great 3ds Max modelling tutorials, so that is an perfect example what im looking for.

Hello!

I got a model work in progress for animation, which is made of around 35 separated mesh/subtools. I unwrapped all of their UVs, but I bubped across a question. In Maya, should I resize these UVs so that all of them could fit on a single UV tile, so that i can have only one map(texture, displacement, etc), or is it fine if I create one for every one of them? I'm working from zBrush so wouldn't be way too much work. And what would be the difference between these two methods?

Hi everyone,
I'm creating some morph targets for my facial rig setup, here's the thing I need to resolve somehow;

I have two different target shapes, when I activate them at the same time I get an ugly looking shape unsurprisingly. So while two shapes are activated, I duplicate my main mesh (with the result shape) and make some modifying on it. At this point, I'd like to use this new mesh as the combination shape of these two target shapes. But when I do this I get the double morph effect because the mesh I used as combination target, kept those already edited vertex data. I hope I made myself clear until this point.

So is there a way to use a mesh which keeps deformed vertex information as combination target without getting double morph?  In other words, I'm asking a solution like using PlusMinusAverage node to prevent double transformation in this case for blendshape.

I actually have two ncache(I believe we must call that this way), so i want to enxtend the size of my  clip2, but not change it's speed.
I just want to enjoy the post infinity inside his curves.
is it possible to use shift+drag that way? in my case that definitly cycle without offset.

How do I remove it? I'm a C4D user trying to break into Maya. Usually on C4D's version of the outliner, you'd see a tag of the material assigned to object.

(look on the right side, those spheres are the materials)



All I need to do is select one of those materials, and hit delete. The object is a blank mesh again. Also at the bottom would be cinema4D's version of the hypershade. So how do I do the same on Maya? 

Maya 2018, Impossible to paint objects with 3D Paint Tool.

I cannot use the 3d paint tool

After click my object and: Assign/edit File texture in the 3d paint tool, an error message says: 

Error: line 0: art3dPaintCtx: Object moveSuperContext not found.

or:

Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/scripts/others/art3dPaintCallback.mel line 2052: No paintable surfaces found. Have you set their shape nodes to be visible?

this is weird, my mesh has uvs, its visible, and its made from a single cube, history already deleated, then why i cant paint; but if i d it on a new cube, no problem at all.... no need to do anything in zbrush for painting...dont understand why Maya 2018 cant make it work.

For some odd reason, whenever I type zero to a vertex influence. It deletes all other vertices and retains only the two highest one. 
I thought it was the max influence but not I had five max influence to begin with.
