custom particle shape for particle, nparticle, bifrost?

Hi, I want to create a pile of objects using and emitter because placing them and having them fall on the floor individually is slow. I was thinking about having an emitter emit the shapes. What is the best way to do it? Maya Dynamics has an instance option but no obvious way to link it to a mesh. I don't seem to have an nParticle menu, and the Autodesk help simply says you can instance nparticles but doesn't say how, and bifrost doesn't have any obvious option.
