Unable to select the xgen Guides

Hi 

For some reason, I am unable to select the xGen Guides. As you can see in this illustration video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q8143unj1...guides.mp4?dl=0
I have to go to the outliner to select the guides which is a bit cumbersome. 

Is there a way around this? 

P.S. Not sure if this matters but the guides are made through "Curves to Guide" command rather than manually placing them using xGen tools.
