Creating water drops on an object

Hello,

I just started with Maya 2015. Now I wanna create water drops on a barrel from a pen. Is it possible to create something like a template which a can put on an object, no matter what shape it has? 
Sorry for my bad english, I hope somebody will understand my question and can give me some ideas.
