I'm working on a maya project, using Maya 2015, no complicated rigging or anything (animated camera, translations and scale) but it has lots of meshes including several that were referenced and then imported into the scene. I did some edits, rendered it, closed it... today I went back to open the file... and got a fatal error on opening it (yeah, I know, should have used incremental saves, lesson learned).
Working on a related file I was able to pinpoint exactly the problem, it's a mesh where I created a cube, edited it at vertex level and added extra loop rings, smoothed it, edited vertexes again, smoothed again, edited vertexes (then duplicated it several times). For some reason that combination is causing the crashes, if I could delete the offending meshes, or open it long enough to delete history, then I could be able to open it again without a problem (already tested on a similar scene where I did the same, saved it, then deleted history, saved again, and the one before deleting history has the same issue).
Any ideas? The file is in .ma, so I can open it in notepad, but I have no idea what to look for.
