Maya 2017 - Area lights making strage shadows, why? image attached

Hi

Im using area lights for an scene, and for some strange reason, the area lights are making this strange shadows, as you can see, there is a normal linear shadow and then an strange dark shadow with a fluid shape... i dont know why this is happearing nor how to call this type of problem, image attached.
